What’s a VFD you ask? It stands for Vacuum Fluorescent Display. You can still find them in use today in some electronic devices. This clock uses new old stock (NOS) IV-22 end view VFDs to tell the time. The case is laser cut and engraved in clear 1/4 inch acrylic. Time keeping is courtesy of NTP via your home WiFi network and there are a multitude of configurable options through a serial interface to your computer. As such, this clock isn’t for novices as you’ll need a little bit of knowledge about how to program it, but clear instructions are provided (Arduino). A kit of parts is also available for the more adventurous, but requires some soldering skills and patience.
A complete kit of parts costs $199 and pre-built clocks cost $249. The 3D printed parts can be printed in different colors upon request (subject to colors on hand). Please note that all sales in CA are subject to sales tax. Shipping costs also apply. Please contact me to place an order or ask any questions.
